MEET A SPECIAL NEIGHBOR
L. Ernestine Fields "The Teddy Bear Attorney"
"The Teddy Bear Attorney"
We can all be proud that Ernestine Fields lives with her daughter Dr. Karen Fields in the Camarillo Springs Townhomes Community. Following a career as an elementary school teacher, Ernestine went to law school to practice law. Most people at 58 years of age would be retiring, but Ernestine's only choice was the “do it on your own" plan and after four years of full time work, night school, and raising a family she became an attorney.Soon her interest was focused on child dependency law which is primarily concerned with protecting children. Ernestine recognized during those stressful times children were comforted by the stuffed animals which she and her staff had collected. After time it was determined the stuffed animals they provided must be new. This is when Ernestine while urged by a court deputy created Comfort for Court Kids, Inc. in 1991. http://courtkids.org/Thanks to Ernestine, the legal community, the Sheriff’s Office, supporting businesses and individuals the teddy bear program provides comfort for all children represented in the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Courthouse in Monterey Park as well as other cities in CA.We have included an article from Metropolitan News Company written by Ernestine “The Teddy Bear Attorney” titled Looking Back on 31 Years-Plus in Law Practice. As MetNew's “Person of the Year”, you will find Ernestine's journey inspiring and comforting. A self made professional with a purpose.
